The American Bar in Sailortown has announced a firm stance against the use of artificial intelligence, pledging to boycott AI-generated materials across its premises and digital channels.
In an update shared on social media, the popular local venue confirmed that it will no longer display AI-produced posters or promotional print materials, nor will it share AI-generated graphics and advertisements across its social media channels. Venue management explained that the move is an act of solidarity with local artists, designers, and creative professionals whose livelihoods are threatened by the rising use of automated tools, alongside concerns regarding the environmental footprint of AI technology.
While acknowledging that AI tools can offer an inexpensive option for event promotions, the bar highlighted the importance of supporting human creativity and independent designers. Moving forward, the venue will exclusively feature promotional artwork crafted by real people.
Management reiterated their deep appreciation for the independent promoters, musicians, comedians, and community groups who regularly stage events at the Sailortown venue, confirming that their collaborative work will continue while moving away from machine-generated imagery.
The American Bar joins a growing number of independent businesses and creatives taking a stand against automated design, and team members expressed hope that other venues across Belfast will consider adopting similar policies to protect local talent.
