A significant development has occurred in the investigation into the murder of Robbie Lawlor, who was killed in North Belfast six years ago. A man in his 40s was arrested in Dublin on Thursday, April 2, 2026, following a coordinated operation between the PSNI and An Garda Síochána. The arrest was made on foot of an extradition warrant, with authorities seeking to bring the suspect to Northern Ireland to face formal charges.
Robbie Lawlor, 34, was fatally shot outside a property on Etna Drive in Ardoyne on April 4, 2020. While the incident took place here in our local community, investigators believe the attack was orchestrated and ordered from Dublin. Evidence gathered from the decrypted Encrochat communication network has been a central component of this complex, multi-year investigation, leading to this latest breakthrough.
Police believe the murder was linked to high-level criminal feuds. It is alleged that the suspect sanctioned the hit due to ongoing rivalries, including the Drogheda feud and the earlier death of Kenneth Finn in 2018. Two other individuals have already been charged in connection with the Lawlor case following extensive searches and forensic work conducted on both sides of the border over the last few years.
The suspect is due to appear before the High Court in Dublin on Friday, April 3, 2026, as the legal process for his extradition to Northern Ireland begins. This arrest marks a major milestone for the joint investigation team as they continue to work toward justice for the events that occurred on Etna Drive.
