From crafting workshops and silent discos at the Winter's Den to dazzling fire shows and a special Crufty Christmas Fashion Show, there's something to enchant every member of the family. Get ready, North Belfast! The heart of our city is officially glowing with festive cheer, inviting families and friends from across the city to unwrap a whole host of Christmas magic. Belfast city centre is sparkling with free, family-friendly activities designed to get everyone into the festive spirit this season.
Following on from the city's Christmas lights switch-on, visitors can immerse themselves in the wonder of the Winter’s Den at 2 Royal Avenue. This beloved venue has once again been transformed into a beautiful winter wonderland, hosting everything from creative crafting workshops and lively silent discos to heartwarming carol singing and choir performances. You’ll also find the popular Belfast Potters’ Market, sustainable gift wrapping workshops, and even a New Year’s Eve céilí to dance into the new year! Don't forget the popular Crufty Christmas Fashion Show on Sunday, 7 December, showcasing adorable canine fashions, and Santa's Post Office, open until Sunday, 21 December, ready to receive letters to the North Pole.
Keep an eye out for exciting pop-up performances and walkabout characters throughout the city centre. Highlights include a dazzling fire and light show in the Cathedral Quarter this Friday, 21 November, and again on Friday, 5 December, vintage swing dancing at Grand Central Station, and the fun family theatre show 'Ginger and Bread vs The Brussels Sprouts' at 2 Royal Avenue.
A spokesperson for the city shared their excitement, stating that the countdown to Christmas has truly begun, with a huge line-up of seasonal activities for all ages. They highlighted the warm and cosy atmosphere of the Winter’s Den, perfect for crafting Christmas crackers, exploring festive traditions, or simply taking a break with a story from Mrs Claus or a festive film and hot drink. The ever-popular Belfast Christmas Market at City Hall continues to be a big draw, bringing people into town to enjoy local shops, bars, and restaurants.
For those travelling from North Belfast and beyond, the start of Translink’s night bus services from Friday, 28 November, offers convenient and safe options for getting home after a festive night out. This year also sees extended Christmas lighting across Ann Street, Arthur Street, Bank Square, and Bridge Street, alongside a diverse range of music, pantomimes, comedy, and art events. To ensure a welcoming atmosphere, Safer Neighbourhood Officers will increase patrols from the end of November as shops extend their opening hours.
