Get ready, North Belfast! Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann is heading to our city this August for the first time ever, promising a spectacular week of Irish music and culture. From August 2nd to 9th, Belfast will welcome an estimated 800,000 visitors, making this the largest event our city has ever hosted. The excitement is building, and preparations are well underway to ensure a safe, vibrant, and unforgettable experience for everyone.
The heart of the Fleadh will beat in Belfast city centre, which will be largely pedestrianised to create a fantastic open-air atmosphere. Roads and streets will be closed to vehicle traffic, either fully or partially, from 6am on Sunday, August 2nd, until 5am on Monday, August 10th. This is designed to ensure pedestrian safety and maximise the festive spirit. The area around City Hall, home to the main Gig Rig stage, will see phased closures to support the increased use of public transport. There may also be limited closures for event setup (July 30th - August 1st) and takedown (August 10th - 12th).
To help everyone plan ahead, has published proposed road closures for consultation. You can view these details on the council's website (/roadclosures) from now until April 6th. This is an important opportunity for residents and businesses, particularly those in and around the city centre, to share their feedback and help shape the final plans. Your input is valuable!
While the city centre will be buzzing, the Fleadh experience will extend into our local neighbourhoods. Beyond the main stages, you’ll find events at venues, outdoor spaces, and even temporary campsites designed to enhance accommodation and encourage visitors to stay longer. Confirmed campsite locations include Ormeau Park (for tents), Titanic Quarter (for motorhomes and caravans), and Falls Park (an additional tent campsite). As a compact city, Belfast aims to make the Fleadh easy to navigate. Visitors will be encouraged to walk, cycle, or use public transport, with Park and Ride sites and a daily Translink shuttle service available.
and its partners are working tirelessly behind the scenes to minimise disruption and ensure the city continues to operate smoothly. Special measures are being put in place to support local businesses, including dedicated delivery windows during road closures and a 24/7 accreditation and logistics hub. Emergency and essential services will have swift access at all times to continue delivering vital care. This focus on community engagement is key to making the Fleadh a success for everyone.
Get ready for an incredible line-up of talent! The opening day will feature a free concert outside City Hall with headline acts like Sharon Shannon, Goitse, and Blackwater Céilí Band, alongside pipe bands and school choirs – a true multi-generational and cross-community showcase. Throughout the week, expect a jam-packed programme of street performances, lively pub sessions, competitions, céilís, marching bands, and a family-friendly fringe programme across the city. This will be an unforgettable cultural experience, with the Fleadh also set to return to Belfast in August 2027.
If you have a creative idea for your local area, the council's Bank of Ideas scheme is still open for applications until March 23rd, offering support for community projects, including those related to Fleadh Cheoil. For businesses in the hospitality sector, an information event will be held at City Hall on March 23rd (12pm-2.30pm) to help you get ready – sign up at /fleadh.
