Great news for our community! The Belfast Grand Central Station project, a vital development for our city, has officially been recognised for its outstanding commitment to sustainability.
This fantastic achievement comes after a rigorous assessment awarded the project an 'Excellent' CEEQUAL Sustainability Performance Rating. This top-tier recognition highlights their strong focus on managing environmental and social impacts throughout the project's lifecycle.
It specifically acknowledges their efforts in key areas such as reducing carbon footprints, protecting and enhancing local biodiversity, and fostering strong engagement with local communities. The rating also commends their excellent overall project management, including responsible construction practices, efficient use of resources, and a clear focus on delivering long-term benefits for users across Belfast and beyond.
Louise Sterritt from Translink, the organisation behind the project, shared her pride in this accomplishment. She highlighted that as the largest transport-led regeneration project in Ireland, sustainability has been a core principle from the very beginning of its design and development.
This latest success, she added, perfectly reflects Translink's strong 'Climate Action' focus as part of their wider 'Better Connected' strategy. She extended thanks to everyone involved in achieving this top performance, reaffirming their commitment to the highest standards in environmental, social, and governance performance for infrastructure.
Once complete, Belfast Grand Central Station will be a world-class facility, serving as a crucial hub for integrated travel. It will seamlessly connect passengers across bus, coach, rail, and active travel networks, making journeys easier and greener for everyone in North Belfast and wider Northern Ireland.
