Get your brains and bodies ready, North Belfast! The incredibly popular Belfast Learning Festival is returning for its ninth year, promising a vibrant week of free activities and workshops right across the city. From Monday 8th to Sunday 14th June, everyone is invited to dive into a diverse programme designed to inspire, educate, and entertain, regardless of your age, experience, or what you hope to learn.
Learning isn't just for classrooms anymore; it happens everywhere! Whether you prefer to relax, get active, think critically, or get hands-on, the festival has something truly special for you. Imagine finding your inner calm with meditation, yoga, or the unique experience of a sound bath. If you're looking to get your heart rate up, there are various exercise and dance classes, as well as engaging guided walks to explore our city.
For those who love to challenge their minds, you can join a lively discussion group, attend an insightful talk, or even start learning a brand-new language. And if you’re a practical learner who enjoys getting your hands dirty (or creative!), the opportunities are endless. Learn to mend and sew, paint stunning pictures, weave beautiful willow creations, try your hand at woodworking, get involved in gardening, or even pick up a new musical instrument.
But that's not all! The festival also offers chances to try things you might never have considered. Ever thought about combat robotics, turning old cameras into art, or delving into the fascinating feminist history of Belfast? Now's your chance! The beauty of this festival is that learning takes many forms, and you don't need any qualifications or even a penny to join in. All events are completely free – you just need to be open to discovering something new or refining a skill you already have.
This annual celebration of lifelong learning is a true community effort, made possible by dedicated partners in the Learning City Collective. Local community organisations play a massive part in delivering the programme, working alongside academic institutions like Belfast Met, Queen’s University, and the University of Ulster. It’s also co-funded by the Public Health Agency, recognising that learning is a vital step towards overall wellbeing.
Alderman Frank McCoubrey, High Sheriff of Belfast, warmly welcomed the festival’s return: "As a UNESCO City of Learning, Belfast is committed to ensuring our residents have access to the gift of lifelong learning. The Belfast Learning Festival is like a taster menu, offering so many choices. You can try a bit of this, a bit of that, and sample new things to see if you like them. We're incredibly lucky to work with fantastic partners who help us deliver a festival that celebrates learning in all its forms, connects people across the city, and proves that learning truly can happen anywhere."
So, mark your calendars, North Belfast! We encourage everyone to check out the full programme and discover what exciting opportunities await you this year. To find out more and view the full schedule of events, visit www./belfastlearningfestival.
