Lee Foods Oriental Supermarket, located on Donegall Pass in Belfast, has been handed a substantial fine of £100,000 at Belfast Magistrates Court. The company, trading as Lee Feng Ltd, also faces additional costs of £5,000.
The ruling, issued on Friday, 1 May 2026, came after the supermarket pleaded guilty to serious health and safety at work offences. These charges stemmed from a tragic workplace accident on 15 August 2023, which led to the death of Mr. Wei Wang, a warehouse operative employed at the business. Mr. Wang sadly passed away four days after sustaining a fall at the premises.
An investigation carried out by the city’s Health and Safety Unit uncovered significant failings within the company. It was found that supervision of employees was inadequate, allowing unsafe work practices to continue unchecked by management. The court heard that these failings contributed to the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
