Police have issued a stern warning to the community after six individuals were arrested across Belfast this past weekend for drink and drug driving offences. The arrests occurred between Saturday, February 28, and the early hours of Sunday, March 1, as part of an ongoing effort to keep our local roads safe.
Among those charged was a 30-year-old man arrested in the Oldpark area of North Belfast for driving with excess alcohol in his breath. He is scheduled to appear before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on March 27. Other arrests included a 61-year-old man in Sprucefield, a 34-year-old man in Dunmurry, and two men arrested on the Ormeau Road and King Street. A 64-year-old woman was also charged following an incident in the Newtownards area. As per standard procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
Inspector Douglas highlighted the importance of these arrests, noting that the quick actions of officers helped remove reckless drivers from the streets. So far this year, 15 people have tragically lost their lives on Northern Ireland’s roads. Residents are being reminded to adhere to the 'Fatal Five' safety rules: never drink or take drugs and drive, slow down, avoid careless driving, always wear a seat belt, and never use a mobile phone behind the wheel.
The North Belfast Hub encourages everyone to play their part in keeping our neighborhood safe. If you suspect someone is driving under the influence, please contact the police immediately to help prevent further injuries or loss of life on our roads.
