North Belfast MLA Phillip Brett has called on the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) to take immediate action following a series of death threats issued by the dissident republican group Óglaigh na hÉireann.
At least one of the individuals targeted by the threats resides in the North Belfast area. The development follows recent reports that the group claimed responsibility for an attempted attack on an individual in the Divis area of West Belfast earlier this month.
Officers have attended the home of the targeted North Belfast resident, and Mr Brett confirmed he has spoken directly with senior PSNI leadership to address the severity of the situation.
Condemning the threats, Mr Brett stated that armed groups attempting to intimidate local communities have no place in society and described those responsible as cowards seeking to drag Northern Ireland backward. He stressed that police must act swiftly to identify, arrest, and prosecute those behind the intimidation.
Mr Brett extended his support to the affected constituent and their family, reinforcing that local residents should never have to endure fear and threats in their own homes.
