In the first instance, the owner of Sahara Shisha, a cafe located on Botanic Avenue, faced penalties for failing to prevent smoking within his premises. Mr. Mesut Savcun pleaded guilty and was fined a total of £1350, alongside £79 in costs, for breaching smoke-free legislation under The Smoking (Northern Ireland) Order 2006. This prosecution followed repeated visits from Tobacco Control Officers, who on five occasions observed people smoking shisha in the enclosed space.
