Get ready, North Belfast! An exciting new city-wide initiative, "Come On Over: Bringing People & Places Together Through Culture," is set to launch, offering fantastic opportunities for residents to connect, celebrate diversity, and explore our rich cultural landscape.
Led by MayWe Events, known for their vibrant and inclusive arts projects, this significant PEACEPLUS initiative is designed to spark connection and encourage cross-community dialogue right across Belfast. Backed by £206,330 in funding from Belfast's PEACEPLUS Local Community Action Plan, it focuses on celebrating cultures and diversity.
Running from October 2025 until September 2027, "Come On Over" will bring together 12 cultural venues and involve 426 people, including local community groups and schools, in a series of dynamic, collaborative projects. The goal is to increase awareness of diversity within our communities and neighbourhoods, building trust and respect.
Residents from North Belfast and beyond will have an unprecedented chance to engage in arts, culture, and heritage activities in cultural venues and spaces that might be new to them. This programme will help develop cross-community engagement across the city, fostering inclusion and understanding.
While more venues are expected to join, initial participants include Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich, The MAC Belfast, Discover Ulster-Scots Centre & Visitor Centre, Banana Block, The Belfast Intercultural Romanian Community, and Templemore Baths. Keep an eye on MayWe's social media channels for exciting developments and details on how you can get involved!
Lois Kennedy, Joint Managing Director of MayWe and Venue Operator of 2 Royal Avenue, shared her enthusiasm: "'Come On Over' represents a powerful opportunity to strengthen the cultural heartbeat of Belfast. By bringing people and places together, we're creating shared spaces where stories can be heard, connections can be formed, and communities can grow in trust and understanding. MayWe Events is honoured to lead this PEACEPLUS project and to work alongside cultural venues across the city to build a more inclusive, vibrant, and connected Belfast."
