On Sunday evening, February 15th, a driver was taken into custody in North Belfast following a series of incidents that began on the M2 motorway. At approximately 6:00 PM, police received reports of a minor hit and run collision on the motorway heading into the city. The vehicle involved was spotted turning onto Donegal Park Avenue shortly after the incident.
The Auto Crime Team was deployed to the area and successfully tracked the vehicle to the car park of the Lansdowne Hotel. Upon locating the driver, officers arrested them for several offences, including dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and driving while unfit through drink or drugs. During the initial search, police found several bags of suspected Class A drugs and strips of Class C drugs, leading to the immediate seizure of the vehicle.
A more extensive search conducted at the custody suite revealed over 40 additional bags of suspected Class A drugs and more than £1,200 in cash. As a result, the driver was further arrested for possession of drugs with intent to supply. This operation has successfully removed dangerous substances from our community and ensured that a high-risk driver is off our local roads, helping to keep North Belfast residents safe.
