Get ready, North Belfast! Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann is almost here, transforming our city centre into a vibrant hub of traditional music and culture from Sunday, August 2nd to Sunday, August 9th, 2026. It’s going to be a fantastic week, but with around 800,000 visitors expected, it’s essential to plan how you'll get around.
From 5 am on Sunday, August 2nd, until 7 am on Monday, August 10th, a large area of Belfast city centre will be pedestrianised to create a safe and welcoming festival zone. This means significant road closures and parking/waiting restrictions will be in effect, making driving into the city centre and its vicinity very difficult, even for drop-offs. Main routes across the wider city will remain open, but motorists should check routes in advance and allow additional travel time.
Public Transport is Your Best Bet!
Translink services – Metro, Glider, Ulsterbus, and trains – will be running throughout the event with enhanced capacity and frequency to meet the anticipated demand. Look out for temporary alterations to some bus stops and pick-up points around City Hall; any changes will be clearly signposted on-site and available via the Translink website and their Journey Planner App.
Great news for evening attendees: extra late-night bus and rail services are planned for Sunday, August 2nd, and again from Thursday, August 6th, to Sunday, August 9th, to help everyone get home safely after the evening events. Special Fleadh day return bus services will also depart towns and cities across Northern Ireland (subject to demand) and are available to pre-book online, making it even easier to experience the music and craic. Convenient Park & Ride Options
If you're coming from further afield or need to drive part of the way, three official Fleadh Park & Ride sites offer a brilliant solution, connecting you directly to the city centre. These are located at Eikon Exhibition Centre, Sprucefield (near M1), Giant's Park (near M2), and Belfast Harbour Estate (near M3). Frequent shuttle buses, running every 10 minutes at peak times, will connect all three sites to the city centre on every event day. You can choose single-day or multi-day options (note: Giant's Park offers day parking only). Spaces can be booked in advance from fleadhcheoil.ie/parkandride, or you can pay on the day using contactless machines (spaces allocated on a first-come, first-served basis).
Walk or Cycle Through the City
For those living closer to the city centre, walking or cycling is highly encouraged. Belfast is a very walkable city, with most Fleadh venues within easy reach of each other. Belfast Bikes will continue to operate, though a few city centre docking stations may be temporarily unavailable. Plus, Frank and Honest Belfast Bikes by Beryl is offering 20% off 100-minute bundles in the week leading up to and throughout the festival! Secure cycle parking facilities are also available in CastleCourt (ground floor car park area), alongside on-street docks across the city centre.
Accessible Travel Options
All three Fleadh Park & Ride sites have disabled parking located close to shuttle bus pick-up points, and the shuttle fleet into the city centre will have low floors for easy access. Dedicated parking, operating on a first-come, first-served basis, will be available for Blue Badge holders at Dunbar Street (outside Common Market) and Winetavern Street/Smithfield Market. A free city centre loop service will also operate during the event, helping to transport those with mobility issues, families, or those carrying heavy instruments around the event zone.
Taxis and Coaches
Taxi services will continue to operate, with dedicated pick-up and drop-off locations situated around the edge of the pedestrianised event zone. These include Corporation Street, Little Donegall Street, the junction of North Street and Royal Avenue, King Street, Adelaide Street, and Chichester Street. Main taxi operators have been informed of these arrangements and will make users aware of their collection point when booking. Coach and tour bus services will operate from Linenhall Street, as well as three dedicated parking sites, throughout the event. Tour operators can book a slot by emailing [email protected].
