Fleadh Cheoil Day 4: Midweek Magic & Family Fun Across Belfast!

Get ready for a fantastic Day 4 of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Belfast today, Wednesday 5 August 2026! The city centre is buzzing with incredible traditional music, dance, and a whole host of family-friendly fun, offering the perfect escape during the summer holidays. Whether you're a lifelong trad fan or looking for a memorable family day out, there's something wonderful waiting for you.

The heart of the action continues at the Gig Rig in the grounds of City Hall, offering free performances throughout the day with no tickets or booking required. Starting this morning at 11:35am with Scotstown CCÉ, the stage will host a lively mix of acts including the acclaimed touring group Planxty O’Rourke, the vibrant Tír na nÓg Dancing Troupe, and Ealta. As the evening approaches, prepare for two innovative groups, Tempest (8:45pm) and NxNW (10pm), who are set to push the boundaries of traditional music with fresh arrangements, contemporary influences, and dynamic performance styles.

Families are particularly well catered for across the city. Discover captivating storytelling sessions like Sammy the Squirrel for early years at 2 Royal Avenue (10am) and The Salmon of Knowledge at Central Library (11:30am and 3:30pm), both free. You can also catch a free screening of The Secret of Kells at Belfast Barge at 10:30am, or immerse yourselves in The Plantin folklore theatre experience at Central Library (times vary, £5). Daily children's seisiúns run from 3pm-5pm at 2 Royal Avenue, alongside a children’s trad trail from the Castle Place tent between 12pm-2pm. Don't miss the Echos of Erin Irish dancing at Victoria Square from 12pm-4pm, and a special Families of Ulster recital with the Meehan Family at 2 Royal Avenue (1pm-2pm). Get creative with a free linocut printing workshop with artist Jonathan Brennan at Vault Studios from 1pm-4pm, or try your hand at making scrap instruments from recycled materials at the Castle Place tent from 10am-12pm. For tasty treats and more entertainment, explore the Food and Drink Village at Belfast Cathedral, the ICC’s Craic and Craft Market, and a raft of activities along the Maritime Mile.

Beyond the family fun, Day 4 also sees significant awards presented. The Flanagan Award will honour great banjo players, acknowledging Cathal Hayden from Tyrone. The Ard-Ollamh Award at City Hall will recognise Reverend Gary Hastings for his dedication to Irish language and music. Additionally, the Ulster Hall hosts ‘Ebb and Flow’ – a special concert at 7:30pm (tickets £15), exploring rivers, lakes, and coastlines, featuring Úna Monaghan, Duke Special, Ryan Vail, and musicians from Belfast Bands Forum, Ards CCÉ, and the Ulster Orchestra, broadcast live on BBC Radio Ulster.

Public transport is highly recommended, and three official Fleadh Park and Ride sites are available at Eikon Exhibition Centre, Giant’s Park, and Belfast Harbour. Please note that roads directly in front of and to the sides of City Hall – Wellington Place, Donegall Square North, Donegall Square East, and Donegall Square West – are now closed to all traffic until Sunday 9 August to help people move around safely.
