Belfast's Lord Mayor, Councillor Tracy Kelly, has recently announced her support for Tre-Eco, a dynamic social enterprise based in South Belfast. This fantastic initiative has been selected as one of her chosen charities for the remainder of her 2025/2026 term, recognising its invaluable work in both environmental regeneration and social empowerment.
Tre-Eco focuses on supporting young volunteers, equipping them with vital training and confidence-building skills. From hands-on building work and plastering to power washing, these young people gain practical experience that significantly boosts their attractiveness to future employers. This mission perfectly aligns with the Lord Mayor's commitment to ensuring "no-one is left behind" and helping people connect with the city's emerging job markets.
Councillor Kelly shared her delight in supporting Tre-Eco, highlighting her personal connection to the area: "It is my absolute pleasure to announce Tre-Eco as one of my civic charities – a social enterprise very close to my heart. This amazing facility is part of the fabric of this close-knit community in South Belfast, where I have lived all my life. Having worked at Belfast South Community Resources previously, I understand the ethos of places like Tre-Eco and the incredible work that leaders Graham and Sarah provide to these young people."
She continued, emphasising the broader impact: "Tre-Eco is more than a social enterprise. It is a safe haven – creating a sustainable environment by engaging young people, tackling local dereliction, and providing future learning and development qualifications. My goal this year is to connect more young people to the opportunities being created in our city, and Tre-Eco is a perfect example of a social enterprise making that happen at a grassroots level."
As a chosen charity, Tre-Eco will benefit from increased visibility across Belfast, further enabling its crucial mission to provide environmental training and drive community-led regeneration projects. This recognition provides a much-needed boost, helping Tre-Eco continue its vital work in building a brighter future for young people and our city's environment.
