Emergency services responded to a dramatic car fire on the M2 Fortwilliam off-slip in North Belfast on Sunday evening. Fortunately, the occupants of the vehicle escaped unharmed before fire crews extinguished the blaze.

Emergency services were called to the M2 Fortwilliam off-slip in North Belfast on Sunday evening following a dramatic vehicle fire.
At around 8:30pm on Sunday, August 2, motorists witnessed a black Ford Fiesta travelling along the motorway with flames shooting from the rear of the vehicle. The driver managed to steer off the motorway onto the Fortwilliam off-slip before coming to a complete stop.
Thankfully, all occupants were able to safely exit the car, and no injuries have been reported despite the rapid spread of the fire. Quick-thinking motorists alerted emergency services and helped direct passing traffic away from the danger until 999 crews arrived on scene.
Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service personnel arrived promptly to extinguish the blaze. The Fortwilliam off-slip remained closed while fire crews dealt with the smouldering wreckage and cleared the roadway for local commuters.
