The PSNI Auto Crime Team was involved in a significant incident in North Belfast last Friday, December 19th, culminating in the arrest of a man following a pursuit involving a collision and the use of specialised equipment.
Officers initially observed a vehicle driving at high speed within the North Belfast area. After signalling for the driver to stop, the vehicle refused and instead sped off, initiating a police pursuit. During the chase, the suspect vehicle collided with the pursuing police car.
To safely bring the incident to a close, the Auto Crime Team deployed a 'hollow spike tyre deflation system', successfully deflating the car’s tyres. Following this, the driver abandoned the vehicle and attempted to make off on foot.
Police quickly located and detained the driver a short distance away. The individual is currently in custody and is being questioned in relation to a number of serious offences, including dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, and other motoring offences. Furthermore, the vehicle involved was seized by police for being used without insurance. This swift action highlights the ongoing commitment of the PSNI to tackling auto crime and ensuring road safety across our community.
