Meghan McGreevy, a local school teacher from North Belfast, has shared her powerful story of how yoga became a lifeline following a major health crisis. A decade ago, at just 28 years old, Meghan suffered a brain haemorrhage that completely upended her life. While she grew up with a mother who taught yoga, it was not until her own long recovery process began that she truly embraced the practice. Through surgery and a difficult rehabilitation, she found that breathwork and movement were the keys to regaining her strength and changing her mindset.
Driven by the belief that movement is medicine, Meghan wanted to bring these healing tools directly to her own community. She noticed that many people in North Belfast were travelling across the city to access yoga or pilates classes and felt it was important to create a dedicated space closer to home. Three years ago, she founded The Little Yogi Studio, which eventually moved to its current home on the Cavehill Road. Recently, she expanded her vision by opening Studio 95, a reformer pilates studio located in the unit below.
For Meghan, the studios are about more than just physical fitness; they are spaces for mental resilience and inclusion. The Cavehill Road site also provides counselling services, reflecting her holistic approach to health. She is passionate about making yoga and pilates accessible to everyone, regardless of their age or ability. She understands that while physical illnesses are often visible, the mental struggle of recovery can be much harder to see, and she aims to help others reconnect with their bodies and find their inner power.
Meghan is particularly proud to be based in her native North Belfast, insisting that local residents deserve top-tier facilities in their own neighbourhood. She acknowledges that walking through the door for the first time can be intimidating, but she reassures newcomers that the vast majority of her clients are beginners. Her goal is to strip away any misconceptions about yoga and provide a welcoming environment where people can build the confidence to take care of themselves.
Whether it is learning the basic skill of getting back up after a fall or finding a moment of calm in a busy life, Meghan’s studios are helping North Belfast residents stay strong in both body and mind. She encourages anyone curious about the practice to take that first step, reminding the community that staying resilient is the best way to navigate life’s challenges.
