Police Launch Murder Investigation Following Death of North Belfast Man

A murder investigation is underway in our local community following the sad death of North Belfast resident Paul Mackin Junior, who passed away in hospital on Wednesday evening, 22nd July.

Emergency services, including colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, were called to a property on Duncairn Parade on Monday, 20th July, following reports of an assault. The 44-year-old was taken to hospital for medical treatment but tragically passed away two days later.

Three men—aged 32, 40, and 41—were initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder shortly after the incident. Following Mr Mackin's passing, the 41-year-old suspect, who remains in custody, has now been arrested on suspicion of murder. The 32-year-old man has been released unconditionally.

Detective Chief Inspector Jenni Rea expressed her deepest sympathies to Paul’s family during this incredibly difficult time. She also urged members of the public to avoid speculation surrounding the circumstances of the case, highlighting that unverified comments cause distress to grieving family and friends and could harm legal proceedings.

Police are appealing to anyone in the community who may have information that could assist the investigation to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 1454 from 20/07/26.
