A North Belfast resident has been fined by Belfast Magistrates Court following an incident involving her dog on Albert Street. Patricia McGahey, of Albert Street, appeared in court on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, where she was sentenced for offences related to the incident, which occurred on May 28, 2025.
The court heard that Ms. McGahey's Staffordshire Bull Terrier-type dog attacked and injured another dog on Albert Street. Additionally, Ms. McGahey failed to comply with important control conditions for her pet. These conditions require dogs to be kept under control in public places and, when not under control, to be securely confined within a building, yard, or other enclosure.
Ms. McGahey entered a guilty plea to both charges. She was convicted of the offences and received a fine of £200 for each, amounting to a total of £400. In addition to the fines, she was also ordered to pay a £15 offender levy and £136 in legal and court costs. This case serves as a reminder to all pet owners about the responsibility of keeping dogs safely under control within our community.
