The inquest into the death of 14-year-old Noah Donohoe, who was tragically found in a storm drain in north Belfast in June 2020, is currently in its third week at Belfast Coroner’s Court.
Noah went missing six days earlier after leaving his home on his bike to meet two friends in the Cavehill area of Belfast. His mother, Fiona Donohoe, has attended every day of the proceedings to hear the evidence presented.
During recent testimony, witness Chris Morrow recalled details from the evening Noah went missing, Sunday, June 21, 2020. Mr Morrow had been visiting a relative on Northwood Road that evening. He told the inquest that when he was leaving, he noticed a black bike lying on its side on the footpath.
He further testified that the following day, after finishing work, he saw a black helmet on the street. After seeing a social media post regarding a missing boy, he alerted the police to his sightings. Mr Morrow confirmed to the inquest that he did not see Noah himself in the area.
The witness was also shown CCTV footage taken from the street on the evening of Noah’s disappearance. The footage featured feet and legs moving in the frame, along with shadows. Mr Morrow identified one pair of feet as his own and the second pair as belonging to his eldest daughter. He explained that police had made him aware of the relevant CCTV footage when they visited his house two weeks ago.
Last week, the inquest heard testimony from Noah’s friends and other witnesses who had seen the 14-year-old cycling. This included one witness who described seeing Noah cycling naked on Northwood Road shortly before he disappeared, and another who discovered his bike outside her home.
