Exciting developments are on the horizon for North Belfast and beyond, following recent planning approvals set to benefit residents across the city.
Locally, Harberton North Special School on Fortwilliam Park has received the green light to erect a temporary mobile classroom complex. This crucial step will allow for the future refurbishment and extension of the school, ensuring an improved learning environment for its pupils.
Elsewhere in Belfast, two new residential developments have been approved for east Belfast. The first will see 35 social housing units built over two blocks on land at 45 Park Avenue, on the site of the former Mount Masonic Hall. The second project involves 53 residential units, comprising 43 dwellings and 10 apartments, on lands at the former Cabin Hill site on the Upper Newtownards Road. These much-needed homes will provide valuable accommodation for families and individuals.
Further approvals include the use of student accommodation blocks in York Street and Bradbury Place for short-term lets during the months of July and August. The city is also set to gain an 8-storey Grade A office block, complete with seven floors of office space and ground-floor retail and business units, at the car park site to the east of Lanyon Place station.
For those seeking new recreational opportunities, a vacant warehouse (the former Decco building) in Redcar Street has been approved for conversion into an indoor Padel Court facility. This exciting new centre will also feature a café, changing rooms, and a gym, offering a fantastic new leisure option for the community.
These collective decisions represent a significant investment in our city, providing essential accommodation, enhancing school facilities, and creating new spaces for business and leisure that will benefit residents across Belfast.
