Local schools across Belfast, including Seaview Primary School in our North Belfast community, have taken the decision to close early today, Wednesday 10th June, following social media reports of planned protests and potential unrest. Other schools closing their doors early include Rathcoole Primary School, Cregagh Primary School, Harmony Primary School, and the Royal Belfast Academical Institution (RBAI).
At Seaview Primary School, Principal Mrs. Latham reached out to parents to explain that the decision was made to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils and staff. The school closed its doors at 11:00 AM, with families asked to collect their children promptly. Mrs. Latham thanked the school community for their understanding and cooperation during this disruptive time, reassuring parents that further updates will be shared as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, RBAI informed parents that pupils would be dismissed at 11:30 AM. However, the school confirmed that external examinations scheduled for this afternoon will proceed as planned. For any students unable to make immediate travel arrangements, senior staff members are remaining on-site to ensure no child is left unsupervised.
It remains unclear whether the Education Authority has issued official guidance regarding today's closures. As our community navigates these challenges, we encourage everyone to stay safe, look out for one another, and keep in touch with your respective schools for the latest updates.
