The North Belfast community is saddened to learn of the passing of James Brown (Jim) McConville, who died on Monday, March 23. A resident of Alexandra Park Avenue, Jim passed away in the hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Jean McConville and a much-loved father to his sons James, Nathan, Curtis, and L.Jay.
Jim was a well-respected figure in the local area, known for his strength and his dedication as a single parent. His passing follows the recent loss of his brother Thomas 'Tucker' McConville in 2024 and his brother Billy in 2017. Friends describe Jim as a true and loyal friend who was profoundly impacted by his family's history, particularly the loss of his mother, Jean, who was abducted and murdered in 1972 during the Troubles.
Funeral arrangements have been shared for those wishing to pay their respects. Jim will repose at his home on Alexandra Park Avenue, with the family requesting privacy on Wednesday evening. Callers are welcome to visit the family home on Thursday and Friday.
The funeral will take place on Saturday, departing from his residence at 12:30 pm for a 1:00 pm Requiem Mass at Holy Family Church on Newington Avenue. For those who cannot attend the service in person, the Mass will be available to view online through the Holy Family Parish webcam.
