Police Urge Vigilance After Rogue Trader Incident in Strathmore Park

North Belfast residents are being advised to stay on their guard following a reported rogue trader incident in the Strathmore Park North area.

The incident took place on Wednesday, August 26, shortly after 3:15pm, when a female resident was approached at her home and pressured to pay for work that had never been completed. Fortunately, no money was handed over, and a family member promptly arrived to provide support. Police enquiries into the matter remain ongoing.

Highlighting the importance of community vigilance, Inspector Hamilton noted that while most callers are genuine, a small number of criminals actively seek to take advantage of older or vulnerable residents directly on their doorstep. Criminals may sometimes claim to represent utility companies or maintenance services to gain access to homes or personal details, whereas genuine representatives will always carry and readily present official identification.

Neighbours across North Belfast are encouraged to keep a close eye on any suspicious doorstep activity, especially involving strangers offering unsolicited services. If you have any doubts about a caller, remember that you are never obligated to open your door. You can safely speak to individuals through a closed door or window while you verify their identity.
