Police in North Belfast have confirmed the recent arrest of a father and son following a dramatic traffic stop initiated by the PSNI Auto Crime Team.
The incident began when the pair attempted a swift U-turn, seemingly in an effort to avoid officers who were busy dealing with another stopped vehicle nearby. This suspicious maneuver immediately drew the attention of the PSNI. Officers quickly caught up to the vehicle and recognized the driver, confirming he was disqualified from driving and therefore unable to hold motor insurance. A subsequent inspection of the car revealed that the number plates were false, belonging to a different black Vauxhall.
As officers were dealing with the driver, his son, who was the passenger, attempted to leave the scene carrying several carrier bags. Police stopped the passenger, and upon inspection, found the bags contained a large quantity of Class A, Class B, and Class C drugs, alongside a significant sum of cash and multiple mobile phones.
The driver was arrested on multiple counts, including driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance, using false number plates, possession of Class A, B, and C drugs with intent to supply, and possessing criminal property. His son was arrested for possession of Class A, B, and C drugs with intent to supply.
Following the arrests, further searches were conducted which led to the discovery of additional controlled substances. This successful operation underscores the ongoing efforts of the PSNI to keep our roads and community safe.
