On Sunday, April 19, a group of approximately ten young people on electric bikes caused significant concern along North Queen Street. The group was observed driving at high speeds in the middle of the road and on local footpaths, posing a serious risk to themselves, other road users, and pedestrians.
Officers later located the group in the Limestone Road area, where two opposing groups were seen running towards each other. Immediate action was taken to disperse the gathering, resulting in the seizure of two electric bikes. The children involved have been identified and are now facing legal repercussions for their actions.
This behavior is being highlighted as reckless and illegal, rather than harmless fun. Driving at speed through residential areas and on pavements puts the entire community at risk. Local authorities have stated that they will continue to proactively patrol these areas to identify those involved and ensure the safety of all residents in North Belfast.
Parents and young people are encouraged to be mindful of the dangers and legal requirements associated with electric bikes. Keeping our streets safe for everyone remains a top priority for our community.
