Security Alert on Woodland Avenue After Historic Munition Discovered

A security alert is currently in place in North Belfast following the discovery of what is believed to be a historic munition on Woodland Avenue, located just off the Cliftonville Road. It is understood that an old hand grenade was found in the garden of a local property.

Police officers and Army Technical Officers (ATO) are currently on the scene working to safely deal with the item. Woodland Avenue has been closed to traffic, with safety cordons set up at the junctions with Cliftonville Road and Brookvale Drive. Police have confirmed that no homes have been evacuated at this time.

Motorists and members of the public are being urged to avoid the area while the operation continues. A police spokesperson confirmed their presence at the scene and noted that further updates will be shared as the situation develops.

Local Independent Councillor Paul McCusker highlighted the ongoing incident, noting that emergency services are actively dealing with the device on Woodland Avenue.
