Emergency services are currently at the scene of a two-vehicle collision on the Shankill Road this morning, Tuesday 23rd June. The road has been closed in both directions between Tennent Street and Glenwood Street, with traffic reports also noting disruptions starting from Lanark Way. Local residents reported hearing a very loud bang at the time of the crash, with one neighbor describing the noise as sounding "like a bomb went off." The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has advised all road users to completely avoid the area and seek alternative routes while emergency services work at the scene.
In addition to the closure on the Shankill, traffic is building up across several other key routes around Belfast this morning. Commuters should expect delays on the M1 between Lisburn Services and J1 Broadway, as well as on the M2 from J4 Sandyknowes to the J1A Nelson Street off-slip. Traffic is also busy on the A12 Westlink heading towards York Street, the A2 Belfast Road from Holywood Exchange towards Tillysburn roundabout, and the A2 Sydenham Bypass from Tillysburn towards the Dee Street bridge.
We encourage everyone in our North Belfast community to stay safe on the roads today, plan ahead, and allow extra time for your morning journeys.
