Exciting news for anyone interested in the future of our vibrant city centre! New draft masterplans have been unveiled, setting out ambitious visions for key areas like the Cathedral Quarter, the Northeast Quarter, Sailortown, Greater Clarendon, and the City Quays. These detailed plans are designed to guide how these important parts of Belfast will grow and develop in the coming years.
These masterplans, formally known as Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG), are crucial because they help steer future investment and ensure development is well-planned within the context of the city's Local Development Plan. The aim is to encourage more diverse housing options and mixed-use developments – spaces where people can live, work, and enjoy leisure time, all contributing to our city's overall community plan, the Belfast Agenda.
A big focus of these plans is 'placemaking' and respecting our city's rich heritage. This means creating high-quality environments for both future residents and visitors, ensuring that new developments enhance the character of these areas. They will also provide clearer direction for developers, helping to attract inward investment by giving greater certainty to future projects.
This is your chance to have a real impact on how our city centre evolves! You're invited to give your feedback on these draft masterplans during a 12-week public consultation period. This is a vital opportunity for local residents, community groups, and businesses to share their insights and help shape the final plans.
The consultation is open until Thursday 29 January. You can find all the details and complete the survey online by visiting the 'Your Say' platform at yoursay./ldp-sailortown-and-cathedral-quarter-doa. If you prefer, you can also email your comments to planning@ or send them by post to Belfast Planning Service, Cecil Ward Building, 4-10 Linenhall Street, Belfast, BT2 BBP. Your input is genuinely welcomed and will help ensure these plans reflect the needs and aspirations of our community.
