North Belfast residents have a fantastic opportunity to help shape a summer of creativity right across our city! You're invited to cast your vote in the 'Bank of Ideas' at City Hall this Sunday, May 10th, between 2pm and 5pm.
This initiative encourages locals to vote for colourful and imaginative projects they'd love to see brought to life in their communities between June and September. With over 110 applications already submitted by individuals, schools, and community groups – including many planned for this summer’s Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann from August 2nd-9th – there's a huge array of ideas to choose from.
Imagine ceilís in local care homes, community-led bodhrán building workshops, guided nature walks exploring our green spaces, unique family crests created with Braille, or even a rock music school! These are just a few examples of the concepts designed to encourage people to celebrate together and strengthen community bonds.
The voting day at City Hall will be a vibrant, market-style event where groups will showcase their ideas to attract your votes. Projects that receive at least 35 votes will share in a total of £87,500 funding, with up to £2,500 available per idea to turn these visions into reality.
Councillor Tracy Kelly, a strong advocate for community spirit and creativity, is encouraging everyone to visit City Hall. She highlights that this is the third year of the Bank of Ideas, a scheme that's 'getting bigger and better' and a fantastic way to 'bring our local neighbourhoods to life and highlight the vibrancy and community spirit that Belfast has in spades.' She added, “With your support, organisers can get the tools and resources they need to fulfil their vision and bring our communities together to enjoy music, movement, art and more.”
The voting day is free to attend and open to all ages, promising a great day out for the whole family. There will be exciting activities like circus workshops, live music, and face-painting to enjoy. To ensure everyone can participate comfortably, a quiet hour will be held between 4pm and 5pm for those with sensory needs. BSL interpreters and an audio describer will also be available. Easy-read documents explaining the voting process can be provided in advance by emailing culture@. Guided support is also available; simply email culture@ with your arrival time to book a space.
Can't make it to City Hall on Sunday? Don't worry! An online vote will be available on Monday, May 11th, from 9am to 12pm. You can cast your vote online at /culturefunding.
