Shaping Belfast Stories: Have Your Say on Our City's Future Hub

Belfast Stories, a major new public space, visitor attraction, and creative hub planned for the city centre, is entering its next phase of public consultation. Residents across Belfast are invited to share their views on the updated designs and proposals before a planning application is submitted. This is your chance to help shape a landmark destination expected to open by 2030.

Exciting news for Belfast residents! The next phase of public consultation has launched for 'Belfast Stories', a huge new project set to transform a prominent part of our city centre. This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone in North Belfast and beyond to have their say and help shape what promises to be a landmark destination for generations to come.

Belfast Stories is envisioned as a vibrant public space, a new visitor attraction, and a dynamic creative hub. It will be located at the striking Art Deco former Bank of Ireland building and the surrounding 5,000 square metre site, right on the corner of Royal Avenue and North Street. The goal is for this multi-purpose destination to open by 2030, attracting over 700,000 visitors annually and supporting up to 760 jobs during its construction and launch phases. This £100 million project is a flagship initiative within the Belfast Region City Deal programme.

This current consultation period runs from November 13, 2025, until February 5, 2026. It builds on valuable feedback gathered from a previous consultation, which helped shape the initial concept designs and visitor experience plans. Now, updated proposals and designs are being shared, and your input is crucial before a planning application is officially submitted in April 2026.

Belfast Lord Mayor, Councillor Tracy Kelly, is encouraging everyone to get involved. She highlighted the project's potential to "bring people together, boost tourism, enhance the city’s international reputation and grow the local creative economy," emphasizing that "Belfast Stories has the genuine potential to bring people together."

Eimear Henry, Creative and Strategic Lead for Belfast Stories, echoed this sentiment, stating, "This is a pivotal moment for Belfast Stories as it takes shape and form. The vision is for the destination to become a landmark within Belfast's built environment and to have a positive impact for many generations, and that’s why this consultation is important. It’s a chance for everyone to help shape the look and feel of Belfast Stories before a planning application is submitted."

The design team, a partnership between Oslo-based architects Snøhetta and our own Belfast-based TODD Architects, has been working hard to develop these plans, and they want to hear from you.
