Northern Ireland’s very own Tayto is kicking off a year of celebrations as it proudly marks its 70th anniversary! Since being founded by Thomas Hutchinson in Tandragee, Co. Armagh, way back in 1956, this iconic brand has become a staple in homes right across the country and beyond. Still run by the Hutchinson family, Tayto remains the largest locally-owned crisp and snack manufacturer, churning out an incredible five million bags a day from its five UK sites.
From its much-loved home at Tayto Castle, nestled in the rolling hills of Co. Armagh, the brand has grown into a formidable £275 million business, bringing us other favourites like Golden Wonder, Mr Porky, and REAL Handcooked Crisps.
To mark this special platinum anniversary, Tayto is launching a host of exciting initiatives. Keep an eye out for special platinum packaging on their classic Cheese & Onion crisp packets, featuring a unique TAY7O anniversary logo. You'll also find delightful new heart-shaped snacks in Prawn Cocktail and Pickled Onion flavours, complete with charming “I Heart Tayto” branding. These, along with celebratory ‘I Heart Tayto’ 20-pack boxes, are hitting stores this week! Even Tayto’s new fleet of delivery vans and lorries will proudly display the anniversary logo.
But that's not all! Tayto plans to fill the year with fun activities, innovative new products, and engaging brand events. Our beloved Mr Tayto mascot is expected to be out and about, visiting communities across Northern Ireland, so keep your eyes peeled!
Stephen Hutchinson, Chairman of Tayto Group, expressed his pride: “We are incredibly proud to be marking the 70th anniversary of Tayto and the first crisps produced here at Tayto Castle. From those small beginnings, Tayto has grown to become a £275m business, producing over 5.7 million packs a day and employing almost 1,500 people. As a family-owned business, we remain as committed as ever to looking after our colleagues, our communities, and our customers, and we are truly grateful for their continued support and loyalty. Innovation has always been at the heart of Tayto, and we have ambitious plans to keep growing. I have no doubt that Tayto will remain one of Northern Ireland’s most iconic brands for another 70 years.”
So, let's raise a packet (or two!) to Tayto and seventy years of delicious memories!
