The North Belfast community has been left deeply saddened following the tragic passing of Mary McCrudden on Tuesday, March 24. Mary, a well-known and much-loved figure in her 70s, lost her life following a collision involving a lorry in the Ardoyne Avenue area.
Described by those who knew her as a gentle, selfless, and warm-hearted lady, Mary was seen as a true example of human kindness. Her sudden loss has left a profound void in the lives of her family and the many neighbors she supported and cared for over the years. Her family has described her as an example to all in how kindness should be delivered and embraced.
Mary was the devoted wife of Tommy McCrudden and a loving mother to Steven, Sean, and Briege. She was also a supportive stepmother to Kathleen, Thomas, Brendan, Eamon, James, and Patricia, and a mother-in-law to Sonia, Campbell, and Debbie. As a cherished grandmother to many and a dear sister to Elizabeth, Frank, and Bridget, her presence will be missed by several generations of her family.
North Belfast MP John Finucane expressed the shock felt across the district, stating that the tragedy has stunned the entire community. He extended his deepest sympathies to Mary’s family during this devastating time and encouraged anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact the police.
Mary’s remains are currently resting at 100 Somerton Road. Her funeral will take place this Saturday, March 28, with a requiem Mass at Holy Cross Church at 10:00 am, followed by burial at Milltown Cemetery. The community is invited to join in remembering a woman whose contribution to those around her will never be forgotten.
