A much-loved North Belfast eatery has announced a temporary closure following an overnight fire at its premises. West Gourmet Sandwich Bar, located at the North City Business Centre on Duncairn Gardens, confirmed the incident occurred overnight between Friday, September 4, and Saturday, September 5.
Reaching out to local patrons on social media, the team explained that they must pause operations while they assess the extent of the damage and carry out essential repairs.
"Unfortunately, there was a fire at West Gourmet Sandwich Bar overnight," a spokesperson for the business shared. "As a result, we will be temporarily closed while we assess the situation and carry out the necessary work. We hope to be back open as soon as we can and will keep everyone updated. Thank you for your understanding and for all your support."
West was originally established in 2002 by Chris Scott and his business partner Paul Donaghy. The popular deli previously operated on Castle Street in the city centre until 2020, when the combined pressures of the Primark fire cordon and the coronavirus pandemic prompted a full move to their established kitchen and counter at the North City Business Centre.
The team has promised to keep the community updated on their reopening plans as repair efforts get underway.
