Northern Ireland Alternatives (NIA) is a community safety organisation founded in 2000. It delivers a government-accredited restorative justice programme to develop non-violent community responses to low-level crime and anti-social behaviour. All services are based on a model of restorative practice, which seeks to heal and repair broken relationships between victims, offenders, and the community. A central part of its work is creating opportunities for young people to participate more positively in their communities. Accredited by the Department of Justice (DOJ), NIA collaborates with statutory organisations to enhance its work at a community level. The organisation has branches across Northern Ireland, including in North, South, and East Belfast, Greater Shankill, North Down, Bangor, Magherafelt, and Portadown.
